Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, September 14 (Xinhua) – The first tunnel of the underground railway project in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, constructed by China Railway Fourth Bureau, held its opening ceremony on the 14th.
Nearly 100 people from China and Mongolia, including the Chinese Ambassador to Mongolia Shen Minjuan, Ulaanbaatar Mayor Niyamubatar, and employees of the construction company, attended the ceremony.
Shen Minjuan said that the Ulaanbaatar railway underpass project is an important project for China and Mongolia to connect the “the Belt and Road” initiative and the “Grassland Road” development strategy. The construction of Channel 1 took more than a year to officially open, and the construction of the other three channels is also accelerating.
Nyamubaatar highly praised the achievements of the construction of Channel 1, stating that it is of great significance for enhancing the urban image of Ulaanbaatar and promoting economic development.
Ulaanbaatar Railway Underpass Project is a key project of cooperation between China and Mongolia under the initiative of jointly building the “the Belt and Road”. It is understood that about half of Mongolia’s 3.5 million population resides in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. With population and economic growth, the existing roads in cities have limited carrying capacity and severe traffic congestion.
