Wellington, September 20 (Xinhua) — The opening ceremony of the New Zealand exhibition of “Artistic Silk Road” works and the China New Zealand Artist Dialogue Salon were held in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, on the 20th.
This event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, the China Association for Cultural Exchange with Foreign Countries, and the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand.
At the opening ceremony, Ye Su, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in New Zealand, stated that since 2009, the “Yihui Silk Road” visit to China organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism has invited hundreds of outstanding artists from nearly a hundred countries to come and create art. Holding the New Zealand exhibition of “Art Gathering Silk Road” paintings is conducive to promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and New Zealand, deepening friendly relations between the two countries, and promoting people to people exchanges.
Xia Shangzhou, Deputy Director of the Art Museum of the China Academy of Art, said in his speech that artists from various countries bring their artistic experience to China, and the colors of different cultures blend together on this land. Every time they meet, it becomes a strong part of the cultural and artistic exchange landscape drawn by the “Art Gathering Silk Road”.
Kate McLeod, a female painter from Christchurch, New Zealand, shared her wonderful experience of participating in the “Yihui Silk Road” visit to China for cultural activities in Zhejiang in November 2023 at the opening ceremony.
This exhibition showcases 63 calligraphy and painting works created by 60 artists from 33 countries including New Zealand and China. The exhibition will be held in Wellington from September 20th to October 5th. The exhibition will be held from October 25th to November 25th in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand.
