Wang Siyuan, former Deputy Secretary General of Jiangsu Provincial Government, was sentenced to 13 years in the first instance for nearly 60 million yuan involved in the case

On December 21, according to the Jiangsu High Court, on December 20, 2024, the Intermediate People’s Court of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province publicly sentenced the defendant Wang Siyuan to 13 years in prison and a fine of RMB 4 million for accepting bribes; The criminal proceeds shall be recovered in accordance with the law and turned over to the national treasury. After trial and investigation, it was found that from 2006 to 2023, the defendant Wang Siyuan took advantage of his positions as Director of the Comprehensive Department, Deputy Inspector, Deputy Director, and Deputy Secretary General of the General Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, as well as the convenience conditions formed by his own authority or position, to seek benefits for relevant units and individuals in project approval, engineering contracting, equipment sales, etc. through the actions of other state personnel, and illegally accepted property totaling RMB 59.76 million from others. The Intermediate People’s Court of Nantong City, Jiangsu Province believes that the defendant Wang Siyuan’s behavior constitutes the crime of bribery, and the amount of bribery is particularly large. Considering that he was able to truthfully confess his crimes after being brought to justice, with meritorious circumstances, and did not actually obtain some of the stolen money in the bribery crime, actively returned the stolen money, and voluntarily confessed to the crime, he may be given a lighter punishment according to law. The court then made the above judgment.
