On February 1st, US President Donald Trump’s envoy briefly visited Venezuela on January 31st, meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and bringing back six American citizens who were previously detained by the Venezuelan side. The White House stated that this visit does not mean that the US government recognizes the Maduro government. The Venezuelan side hopes to continue to maintain contact with the US side in the future. Trump’s envoy Richard Grenier only stayed in Venezuela for a few hours. The White House said that his visit mainly discussed the repatriation of Venezuelans in the United States and the release of Americans seeking to be held by Venezuela.
