On April 21st, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov responded to a question from Russian media about the possibility of extending the ceasefire, stating that “there are no other instructions”. He stated on the same day that President Putin did not issue an order to extend the ceasefire. On April 19th, Russian President Putin made the decision to observe an Easter ceasefire during a meeting with Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Gerasimov. He specifically pointed out that the ceasefire will last for 30 hours from 18:00 Moscow time on April 19th to 00:00 Moscow time on April 21st. Putin also emphasized that the Russian military must be prepared to respond to possible ceasefire violations and provocations by the Ukrainian armed forces.
