On April 25th, Chinese Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Li Song, Russian Permanent Representative Ulyanov, and Iranian Permanent Representative Najafi jointly met with IAEA Director General Grossi on the 24th to have in-depth communication on how the IAEA can play a role in serving the political diplomatic settlement process of the Iranian nuclear issue under the current situation. The representatives of the three countries emphasized that political and diplomatic contacts and dialogue based on mutual respect are the only effective and feasible option to solve the Iranian nuclear issue, and supported the IAEA to fully play its professional and unique role in promoting political and diplomatic efforts around the Iranian nuclear issue with a positive and constructive attitude. China and Russia support Iran to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the IAEA. Li Song pointed out that China appreciates Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, respects Iran’s right to peaceful use of nuclear energy, supports Iran’s dialogue with all parties, including the United States, to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests through consultation and negotiation. This will help maintain the international nuclear non-proliferation system and promote regional peace and stability. Under the new situation, China is willing to further strengthen communication and cooperation with Russia, Iran, and the IAEA, injecting positive energy into the political and diplomatic resolution process of the Iranian nuclear issue.
