On May 4th, California Governor Gavin Newson said in an interview with Japanese media Nikkei Asia online that the Trump administration’s tariff policies have caused huge damage to California and that California will continue to “open its trade doors” to China. Newson said that California has always been a “stable trading partner” for China. Both parties have signed a series of memorandums of cooperation between provinces, prefectures, counties, and cities. Last year during his visit to China, he extended his connections with China to the national level. He emphasized that California is “open to all trading partners, including China,” because global trade is not a zero sum game, and “we are interdependent with each other.
