Outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in multiple parts of South Africa, government urgently restricts animal transportation

On May 12th, the South African Department of Agriculture confirmed that the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in the country has spread to provinces such as KwaZulu Natal. It is reported that all new cases were tested positive at animal auctions. The Ministry of Agriculture calls on farmers nationwide to immediately restrict animal transportation, especially to avoid the movement of animals from restricted provinces. Newly purchased animals must be isolated for 28 days, and any suspected symptoms should be reported immediately.
