Kuala Lumpur, May 16 (Xinhua) — Interview with Xu Qingqi, Chairman of the Malaysia New Asia Strategic Research Center, on “China’s Image Becomes More Stereoscopic and Rich in My Eyes”
The image of China has become more three-dimensional and rich in my eyes, “said Xu Qingqi, Chairman of the Malaysia New Asia Strategic Research Center, during his recent visit to China. Unlike his usual visits to first tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, he made a special trip to the rural areas of the Nujiang River Basin in Yunnan to witness China’s tremendous achievements in poverty alleviation and reduction.
During a recent interview with Xinhua News Agency, Xu Qingqi said that recently in Yangpo Village, Lushui City, Yunnan Province, he saw that the villagers, who had relocated from a deep mountain canyon, were living and working in peace and contentment with government support, and their living conditions had greatly improved. The village houses are tidy, with complete living facilities, and there is also a well-equipped school where students use tablets to attend English classes. China has achieved the poverty reduction target of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule. It is truly remarkable that such a large country can mobilize national efforts and achieve targeted poverty alleviation, “he said.
Xu Qingqi told reporters that China’s poverty alleviation focuses on teaching people the concept of sustainable development through fishing. In addition to material assistance, we also focus on fundamentally solving poverty problems and helping people achieve self-development through education and skill enhancement. He noticed that China attaches great importance to on-site investigation and research in the process of poverty alleviation, and cultivates characteristic industries according to local conditions. For example, villagers in mountainous areas of Yunnan are planting high-quality coffee beans with government assistance, while coastal areas are developing shallow sea aquaculture. These experiences and practices are worth learning from and promoting in Malaysia.
Xu Qingqi said that in the process of poverty alleviation and reduction in China, technological innovation and green concepts have always been integrated, and technology has played an important role in improving agricultural production efficiency and narrowing the urban-rural gap.
Malaysia has a very close cooperative relationship with China. Malaysia can learn from China’s poverty alleviation experience, especially in innovative practices in agriculture, fisheries, and e-commerce, “he said.
Turning to Chinese path to modernization, Xu Qingqi said that the global significance of Chinese path to modernization lies in that China has gone out of its own way in line with its own culture, history and national conditions, stressed common prosperity, and development benefits all people, which is worth learning from developing countries.
Xu Qingqi said that Chinese path to modernization has opened up a new development model and path, providing new reference for countries around the world. “Chinese path to modernization shows that developing countries like Malaysia can also find a development path that is in line with their own national conditions according to their own actual conditions.”
