A refugee camp in western Sudan continues to be shelled, resulting in 18 deaths

On May 18th, local time, the health department of Abu Shuk refugee camp in Northern Darfur, Sudan stated that the camp has been frequently shelled in the past four days, resulting in 18 civilian deaths and 30 injuries. The health department of Abu Shuk refugee camp accuses the Sudan Rapid Support Force of continuing to launch attacks on the camp, stating that there is an extreme shortage of drugs inside the camp and medical institutions have stopped providing services. The rapid support force has not yet responded to this. Abu Shuk refugee camp is located in the northern part of El Fasher, the capital of Northern Darfur, and is one of the largest refugee camps in Sudan, accommodating over 500000 displaced persons. On April 15, 2023, armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas. The armed conflict that has lasted for over two years has resulted in approximately 29700 deaths and 12.9 million people being displaced in Sudan.
