On May 19th, preliminary statistics released by Romania’s electoral institution in the early hours of the 19th showed that in the second round of the presidential election held on the 18th, independent candidate and Bucharest Mayor Nikusor Daan won. According to the statistics of 99.24% of the votes by the Romanian electoral institution, Dane received 53.99% of the vote, while the President of the Romanian Unity Union Party, Giorgio Simion, received 46.01% of the vote. The difference between the two sides is nearly 8 percentage points, and Dane’s victory is a foregone conclusion. The Romanian President serves a term of 5 years and can be re elected once.
