Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson: German Prime Minister attempts to downplay issue of supplying long-range weapons to Ukraine

On May 18th local time, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova responded to German Chancellor Mertz’s statement that “there are no plans to provide Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine”. She pointed out that such statements should not be easily accepted, believing that their true purpose is to downplay the topic from the public eye. Zakharova said that on the surface, this seems to indicate that Germany hopes to resolve the conflict in Ukraine peacefully, but this is just a game of words. The real intention of the German Chancellor is to make the issue of long-range weapon supply disappear from the public eye, as if it had never happened. On the 15th, German Chancellor Merkel told German media that Germany currently has no plans to supply the Taurus cruise missile to Ukraine, and stated that this issue is not on the agenda at present.
