Nigerian scholar: Africa China cooperation provides support for addressing tariff challenges

Abuja, May 21 (Xinhua) — Several experts and scholars in Nigeria recently stated that Nigeria and China upgraded their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership last year, providing support for addressing the impact of the United States’ excessive tariffs. The pragmatic cooperation between Nepal and China, as well as between Africa and China, also contributes to maintaining multilateralism and building an equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization.

Recently, a seminar was held in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, to address the United States’ excessive tariff policies. Charles Onunaiju, director of the Nigerian China Research Center, said at the meeting that China, through the Forum on China Africa Cooperation and the “the Belt and Road” initiative, has not only promoted infrastructure construction in Africa, but also strengthened Nigeria and other African economies’ ability to cope with the United States’ destruction of international trade.

The bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and China is currently at a historic high, with broad prospects for cooperation, “said Onunaiju. Africa China cooperation has strong resilience and will inject more certainty into the world economy in the context of global trade turbulence.

Sherif Gali, Director of the Center for Contemporary China Africa Relations at Abuja University in Nigeria, stated that cooperation between Africa and China adheres to the principle of reciprocity, and “cooperation has always been pragmatic, especially when Africa needs it the most. He believes that the African market is huge, Nigeria has a large population, and plays an important role in the African economy. The establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China will have a wide-ranging impact on the adjustment of the global trade pattern.

The General Manager of Nigerian Farmers’ Groups and Cooperatives, Letson Tedek, stated that in the face of global trade tensions, Nigeria should maintain clarity in its development policies, and Nigeria and Africa need true partners like China. China’s development experience is worth learning from for Africa and is also beneficial for addressing common challenges.
