Interview | China is the most trusted partner in the global South – Interview with Indonesian international relations scholar Wei Zhenyu

Jakarta, July 4 (Xinhua) – Interview with Indonesian international relations scholar Wei Zhenyu: China is the most trusted partner in the global South

China is the most trusted partner of countries in the global South, “Indonesian international relations scholar Wei Zhenyu said in a recent interview with Xinhua News Agency.” Against the backdrop of profound adjustments in the global landscape and the collective rise of southern countries, China has always adhered to the principles of unity, win-win, and development, actively promoting deepening cooperation with countries in the global South in various fields

Wei Zhenyu said that in recent years, China has continuously deepened its partnerships with Asian, African, and Latin American countries, effectively promoting poverty reduction and independent development in developing countries through large-scale infrastructure investment, preferential financing, technology transfer, and capacity building projects. China’s support does not come with political conditions, and this cooperation model based on trust and unity is in sharp contrast to the traditional aid model

She pointed out that China’s promotion of South South cooperation conveys a development concept, emphasizing that developing countries can be self reliant and mutually beneficial. It is this cooperative approach based on equality and respect that has earned China the widespread trust of developing countries

In Wei Zhenyu’s view, the initiative of jointly building the “the Belt and Road” proposed by China is a vivid embodiment of this cooperation concept. She said that a series of cooperation between Indonesia and China under the framework of jointly building the “the Belt and Road” is highly strategic and effective, which has injected strong impetus into Indonesia’s economic development.

Projects like the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway not only shorten the commuting time between Jakarta and Bandung from over 3 hours to 46 minutes, significantly improving transportation connectivity, but also drive the development of tourism, commerce, service industries and other fields along the route. She said that the Jakarta Bandung high-speed railway project is a cooperation example that fully embodies equality, mutual benefit, technology sharing, capacity building and local participation, and also reflects China’s concept of consultation, co construction and sharing.

Wei Zhenyu believes that China’s global security initiative on security issues reflects the concept of “harmony in diversity” in traditional Chinese culture. True security comes from mutual trust and development, not an arms race, “she said. China refuses to instrumentalize security cooperation, does not participate in military blocs, and does not impose political models, which is in stark contrast to Western countries’ frequent military intervention and unilateral sanctions. This security concept based on respect and dialogue is gaining recognition from more and more developing countries.

Wei Zhenyu said that the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative reflect China’s deep value pursuit of promoting common development and mutual learning among civilizations. The three major global initiatives embody the concept of “win-win, mutual trust, and non intervention”, providing a realistic path for countries in the global South to break away from traditional aid models and achieve independent modernization. These initiatives are rooted in Eastern philosophy rather than Western style power logic, providing the global South with its own development narrative

She believes that as an important driving force and trusted strategic partner for the development of countries in the global South, China will continue to play an important role in global South cooperation.
