Algiers, July 16 (Xinhua) — The groundbreaking ceremony for the extension project of China Railway Construction’s Algiers Metro Line 1 was recently held in the capital of Algeria, Algiers. This is the first time that a Chinese company has participated in the construction of the Algerian subway as a general contractor.
More than 300 people attended the ceremony, including Algerian Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Lakhdar Lahroukh and Chinese Ambassador to Algeria Dong Guangli.
Rahrukh expressed the hope that the participating parties will further optimize implementation methods and construction techniques, improve project management level, achieve smooth performance, and help Algeria’s urban infrastructure construction reach a new level.
The subway project is approximately 9.6 kilometers long and has 9 underground stations. The project owner is the Algiers Metro Company, which is jointly implemented by a consortium led by China Railway Construction and local state-owned enterprises.
It is reported that this project is an important component of the government’s strategy to strengthen the transportation infrastructure of the capital city, aiming to improve commuting conditions and meet the travel needs of the people. After the completion of the subway, it will achieve efficient connectivity between the core area of the capital city of Algeria and the Algiers Houali Boumedidin International Airport, as well as connecting multiple large residential areas, university towns, and commercial centers, becoming an important transportation artery and serving local development.
