Beijing, September 15 (Xinhua) — Adhering to multilateralism is the basic path – building a more just and reasonable global governance system

Looking at the world, we are facing unprecedented changes. Since the new century, a large number of emerging market countries and developing countries have developed rapidly, world multipolarity has accelerated, the international landscape is becoming increasingly balanced, and the international trend is irreversible. The previous international power structure led by a few countries and the resulting unfair and unreasonable international order no longer meet the needs of the times and the expectations of the international community. The rising countries of the global South demand equal participation in the formulation of international rules, fundamentally changing the current situation of unequal distribution of global resources and severe imbalance of discourse power. Adhering to multilateralism means recognizing and respecting the equal rights of all countries in the world, and providing an institutionalized platform for more countries, especially developing countries, to participate in global governance. This is a necessary prerequisite for achieving fairness and rationality in the global governance system.

China has always advocated that the United Nations is the core platform for practicing multilateralism and promoting global governance, and its role can only be strengthened, not weakened. As the most universal, representative, and authoritative intergovernmental international organization, the United Nations has played an important role in maintaining world peace and promoting common development over the past 80 years. Currently, global challenges are constantly emerging, from climate change to public health crises, from cybersecurity to terrorism, and no country can tackle them alone. True multilateralism means adhering to the United Nations platform, consolidating global consensus, coordinating actions of all countries, and jointly addressing challenges. As a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China is willing to continue deepening cooperation with the United Nations, support the United Nations in playing a core role in international affairs, and jointly shoulder responsibilities for maintaining world peace and promoting development and prosperity.

The fate of humanity has never been so closely interconnected as it is today. Adhering to true multilateralism and promoting an equal and orderly multipolarization of the world is the responsibility entrusted to us by the times and the only way to open up a new pattern of global governance. This is a path full of challenges but with a bright future. Only by working together can we jointly create a more stable, prosperous, and just future.
