Seven countries joined the international cooperation mechanism for natural disaster prevention and emergency management of the “the Belt and Road”

Xinhua News Agency, Sanya, November 7 (Reporter Xia Xia, Huang Taoming) The 2025 Council Meeting of the “the Belt and Road” International Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management was held in Sanya, Hainan on November 6. At this meeting, seven countries including Tonga, Zimbabwe, Georgia, Malawi, Gambia, Comoros, and Honduras were approved to join the cooperation mechanism as members.

It is understood that two international organizations, the United Nations Office for Disaster Reduction and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, have joined the cooperation mechanism as partners. Under the cooperation mechanism, the “the Belt and Road” Enterprise Sustainable Development Center and the “the Belt and Road” Mine Standards Internationalization Working Group were established.

Wang Xiangxi, President of the Council of the International Cooperation Mechanism for Natural Disaster Prevention and Emergency Management of the “the Belt and Road” and Minister of China’s Emergency Management Department, said that since the formal establishment of the cooperation mechanism, China has actively played a leading role in promoting the establishment of the organizational structure of the cooperation mechanism, implemented 14 cooperation initiatives, and continued to deepen bilateral exchanges and mutual learning and achieved positive results.

China has achieved fruitful results in disaster prevention and control, not only benefiting its own people, but also making important contributions to global sustainable development, which is praised by the international community, “said Kamal Kishore, Assistant Secretary General for Disaster Reduction and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction.

It is reported that since the official establishment of the “the Belt and Road” international cooperation mechanism for natural disaster prevention and emergency management, 34 countries and 3 international organizations have become members or partners of the cooperation mechanism, and the cooperation achievements have benefited more than 80 countries on five continents.
