Johannesburg, November 14 (Xinhua) — Responding to the needs of global governance and responding to the common voice of the times – a report from a think tank on jointly building a “new type of global leadership” resonates with people from all walks of life in Africa
On the 13th, the National High end Think Tank of Xinhua News Agency released the think tank report “Building a ‘New Global Leadership’ – Joint Action towards a More Just and Reasonable Global Governance System” at the China Africa Partners Conference of the “Global South” Media Think Tank High end Forum held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The attendees from all walks of life in Africa highly paid attention to the enlightening significance of the report for global governance reform, and discussed the urgency and future vision of global governance reform.
At present, the world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, with the international situation intertwined with turmoil. The deficits in peace, development, security, and governance are increasing, and human society is facing unprecedented risks and challenges. The report points out that the root cause of the current turmoil in the world is the deficit in the “global leadership” that should have led countries to work together to address global challenges and overcome common crises. The report calls on the international community to jointly build a “new type of global leadership”, leading the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system, and jointly responding to the crisis of the times.
African participants from all walks of life believe that the action plan for global governance reform proposed in the report, which calls for the international community to jointly build a “new type of global leadership”, calls for the replacement of confrontational games with consultation and cooperation, and the replacement of unilateral leadership with multilateral joint efforts, in response to the needs of global governance and the common call of the times.
We live in an era of profound changes in the international system. The governance system architecture after World War II is increasingly facing challenges in terms of applicability, fairness, and legitimacy, “said Baru Demisi, Senior Advisor at the Ethiopian Policy Institute.
South African independent media group executive chairman Sevi believes that the release of the report is “timely”. He said that looking at the world today, conflicts are frequent, false information is spreading, and the trust foundation of the international community is being eroded. We need to rely more than ever on rational research and exchange of ideas to rebuild consensus
Erastas Mwencha, former vice chairman of the African Union Commission and member of the Advisory Committee of the the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, pointed out that in the face of the “deficit”, “some multilateral mechanisms formed after World War II have been difficult to adapt to the times”. He believes that based on the concept of the report, ‘in the future, common challenges should be resolved through negotiation in order to restore balance and vitality to the international system’.
Seeking opportunities in danger and breaking through difficulties. Empowering ‘global leadership’ and advancing global governance, the global South is taking action.
For a long time, the power of global economic governance has been highly concentrated in the hands of a few developed countries, forming a so-called “center periphery” unequal structure, placing developing countries at a disadvantage. With the collective rise of emerging market countries and developing countries represented by the BRICS, the global South has entered a “new awakening era” and is undergoing a role transition.
African participants from all walks of life believe that in recent years, countries in the global South have continued to provide transformative energy for “global leadership”, from calling for reform of traditional platforms to creating emerging governance platforms. Their actions have profoundly reconstructed the global governance landscape and become a key force in promoting the global governance system towards a more just and reasonable direction.
As an important member of the global South and a responsible major country, China is firmly committed to being a constructive force in transforming the world, sharing China’s development opportunities, providing diverse international public goods, injecting certainty into the turbulent world, and continuously empowering “global leadership”. This has been highly appreciated by people from all walks of life in Africa attending the conference.
The Deputy Director General of the Egyptian News Agency, Nashwa Abdul Hamid, emphasized that China’s global governance initiative aims to promote the establishment of a more just and equitable global governance system, based on the principles of sovereign equality and genuine multilateralism. The global governance initiative is inspiring, and African countries have a new opportunity to establish their own positioning in an increasingly multipolar world
Mwincha believes that promoting institutional communication and dialogue among countries in the global South, led by the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative, is a pragmatic path for the global South to form a joint force, reach consensus, and act together. The four major initiatives not only have profound ideas, but also provide directions for action – they make promoting an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization a practical lever for driving change
Currently, China and Africa are continuously deepening cooperation, revitalizing the global South, and promoting its increasing role in global governance reform. The development process of China Africa cooperation provides a practical model for global governance through consultation, co construction, and sharing, and also proves that the vitality of multilateral mechanisms lies in respecting the subjectivity of participants and focusing on the core demands of common development.
Participants from all walks of life pointed out that the joint efforts of global southern forces, including China and Africa, can not only achieve their own sustainable development, but also contribute to the common vision of building a more fair, just and prosperous world.
I firmly believe that together, countries from the global South can promote a more equitable and representative transformation of the global governance system, “said Paul Irado, Editor in Chief of Kenya Africa Broadcasting Group.
