Chinese enterprises participate in the construction of Brazil’s Buzius Oilfield Phase VI project and put it into operation

Rio de Janeiro, January 2 (Xinhua) — Petrobras announced on the 2nd that the Brazil Buzius VI project, which is jointly built and owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), will officially start production on December 31, 2025 local time.

The project is located in the Santos Basin in the southeastern waters of Brazil, with an operating depth of 1900 to 2200 meters. It adopts a deep-water salt water development model of “floating production storage and unloading equipment+underwater production system”. The project is designed with a daily crude oil production capacity of approximately 25000 tons and a daily natural gas processing capacity of 7.2 million cubic meters. With the commissioning of the sixth phase project, the daily production capacity of Buzius oilfield will exceed 1.15 million barrels.

Luis Schmar, General Manager of the Buzius Oil Field of Petrobras, stated that the floating production, storage, and unloading unit of the Phase 6 project not only has excellent production capacity, but also adopts technologies such as heat recovery and closed flare in energy conservation and carbon reduction, significantly improving energy utilization efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. It is a successful example of close cooperation and excellent execution between Brazil and China.

Huang Yehua, General Manager of CNOOC Brazil, introduced that CNOOC is vigorously promoting cooperation with Brazil in the development of ultra deepwater oil fields, achieving coordinated development of oil and gas resource development, technological innovation, and green and low-carbon transformation.
