Laos Clean Energy Power Standard Research Institute officially unveiled

Vientiane, March 18 (Xinhua) — The Laos Clean Energy Power Standard Research Institute, initiated by CGN Energy Technology (Laos) Co., Ltd., was officially established on the 16th in Vientiane, the capital of Laos.

Under the guidance and support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Laos and the China Electricity Council, the research institute will use the rule standard “soft connectivity” to enhance the quality and upgrade of China Laos power cooperation, and consolidate the foundation of regional power interconnection. The Minister of Industry and Trade of Laos, Malaiton Gommasi, and the Chinese Ambassador to Laos, Fang Hong, along with other Chinese and foreign guests, jointly unveiled the plaque for the research institute.

This research institute is the first cooperative institution in Laos to focus on power standard research, managed by the Industry, Trade and Energy Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Laos. Its core goal is to connect the development needs of China and Laos, promote standard construction around clean energy power project management, operation and maintenance, and talent cultivation. The research results will be incorporated into the bilateral power standard cooperation mechanism between China and Laos, and promote alignment with regional and international standards.

It is reported that the China Electricity Council undertakes the mission of “going global” for China’s power standards, and the Lao Ministry of Industry and Trade is actively transforming into a “co builder” of regional power rules. The first phase of China General Nuclear Power Laos photovoltaic project has been put into operation in December 2025. With the advancement of subsequent projects, the standard “soft connectivity” is becoming increasingly important. The establishment of this research institute will provide important support for regional power interconnection.

The establishment of this research institute is not only a practical measure for China and Laos to celebrate the “Good Year of China and Laos”, but also a concrete practice for China General Nuclear Power to promote the “going global” of China’s power technology and standards. It will promote the upgrading of China Laos power cooperation to standard building, inject green momentum into the construction of a China Laos community with a shared future, and promote the coordinated development of energy in the Lancang Mekong region.
