Vientiane, April 8th (Xinhua) — The commissioning conference of the first phase of the 1 million kilowatt photovoltaic project of the China General Nuclear Power Laos Northern Interconnection Clean Energy Base was held in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the 7th. More than 200 representatives from the Laotian Prime Minister Song Sai and relevant governments and enterprises of China and Laos attended the event.
The project is located in Mengsai County and Namo County, Oudomxay Province, Laos, with an expected annual power generation of 1.65 billion kilowatt hours and an equivalent reduction of approximately 1.3 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
In his speech, Lao Minister of Industry and Trade, Malaitong, stated that the project not only promotes the effective implementation of power interconnection between Laos and China, but also creates a large number of employment opportunities for Laos and drives the development of related industries. According to the project team’s statistics, the peak period of project construction will provide nearly 3000 local jobs.
Yang Changli, Chairman of China General Nuclear Power Corporation Limited, stated that 2026 is a “good year for old friends between China and Laos”. China General Nuclear Power Corporation will accelerate the implementation of subsequent clean energy projects in the five northern provinces of Laos, and contribute greater strength to building a closer China Laos community of shared future through clean energy cooperation.
