Astana, April 9th (Xinhua) — The construction launch ceremony of the 1 GW “Mirny” wind power project in Kazakhstan, which was constructed by Chinese enterprises, was held in Astana on the 9th.

According to Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Shanghai Electric”), the “Mirny” wind power project is Kazakhstan’s first gigawatt level wind power purchase agreement project. The project is jointly developed by a joint venture company consisting of Total Energy from France, Samruk Energy from Kazakhstan, and Petronas from Kazakhstan. Shanghai Electric serves as the leading party in the general contracting consortium, providing core equipment and overall solutions.

It is reported that the total construction period of the project is 31 months, and it is expected to be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2028. The annual power generation is expected to reach 4 billion kilowatt hours, reducing 3.2 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
