On April 25th, OpenAI announced that it has noticed that many users enjoy using Deep Research. Therefore, OpenAI has expanded the usage range of Plus, Team, and Pro users by introducing a lightweight version of Deep Research to increase the current speed limit. We have also launched a lightweight version for free users. The lightweight version of Deep Research is supported by OpenAI o4 mini, which has a level of intelligence close to the standard version of Deep Research that users are familiar with and love, while significantly reducing operating costs. This version typically responds with more concise content while maintaining the depth and quality that users expect. When the usage limit of the standard version is exhausted, the system will automatically switch to the lightweight version to respond to queries. All Plus, Team, and Pro users have now expanded their use of Deep Research. Enterprise and educational users will receive access privileges in the coming week and have the same usage level as Team users. The lightweight version of Deep Research is now available to all free users.
