On May 10th, according to the Japan Broadcasting Corporation, the United States had significantly increased import tariffs on Japanese Wagyu cattle. In April of this year, the United States announced a 10% “minimum benchmark tariff” on its trading partners, undoubtedly adding insult to injury to Japan’s Wagyu exports. A Japanese manufacturer of the Wagyu brand is closely monitoring the progress of the US Japan tariff negotiations. The company originally planned to fully launch exports to the United States this year, but if US tariffs officially take effect, its Wagyu products will face a markup of over 50%. (CCTV Finance)
