Turgusun Hydropower Station was constructed by CCCC Sinohydro International Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Sinohydro International). It was started in January 2017 and put into production in July 2021. It is an important project of cooperation between China and Kazakhstan under the framework of jointly building the “the Belt and Road”.
The installed capacity of Turgusun Hydropower Station is 24900 kilowatts, with an average annual power generation of 79.8 million kilowatt hours and an average annual reduction of 72000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This hydropower station has filled half of the electricity gap in the Altai region of Donghai Prefecture, effectively promoting the local green and low-carbon transformation.

The four floors above ground in the hydroelectric power plant room are the offices of the staff, and it is only when entering the underground floor that one truly enters the core area – where the three hydroelectric generators are located. On site dispatcher Nebomiashchi Anton told reporters that during his years working at the hydropower station, he has mastered key technologies and become a professional engineer. This profession not only earns me respect, but also allows me to give back to my hometown with what I have learned and become a witness to the technical cooperation between Kazakhstan and China
