Interview | “China’s sustained development brings new hope to countries in the global South” – Interview with former Lebanese Prime Minister’s advisor Badawi

“China’s sustainable development is not only of great significance to its own people, but also brings new hope to the southern countries of the world.” Rifat Badawi, a well-known Lebanese scholar and former Prime Minister’s adviser, said in a written interview with Xinhua News Agency recently that China is taking practical actions to promote the construction of a more fair, just and inclusive world, and provides valuable support for the southern countries of the world to strive for independence, independence and development.

“China clearly opposes any form of unilateralist hegemonism and maintains that the right to development is a fundamental right of all countries.” Badawi believes that China, as the largest developing country, has put forward the the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative in recent years to provide a development platform for countries in the South and show the world its firm determination to promote common development.

Turning to the “the Belt and Road” initiative, Badawi believes that this initiative promotes infrastructure connectivity and trade cooperation among many developing countries, and also provides development experience and technical support. “I believe that the real significance of the the Belt and Road Initiative is not limited to the construction of ports, roads or railways, but it conveys the idea that countries in the South can take the path of independent development.”

Badawi pointed out that with the development of digital economy, artificial intelligence and other fields, China’s position in the global technology system has become increasingly important, providing new opportunities for leapfrog development for countries in the global South. In the future, there is an urgent demand for digital technology and infrastructure in regions such as Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This is precisely the broad stage for Chinese enterprises

Badawi further pointed out that Chinese technology companies have accumulated valuable experience in fields such as digital payments, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence, which can help developing countries enhance their voice in the global industrial chain.

Badawi said, ‘China helps developing countries achieve independent development by promoting cooperation, providing knowledge, and disseminating technology. This concept is highly attractive to countries in the global South.’ China’s experience in poverty reduction, education, technological innovation, and social governance is worth learning from for developing countries.
