Lusaka, July 16 (Xinhua) — Lilongwe News: On the 15th local time, the Marawi Zaenma Highway Project, constructed by China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (CR20th Bureau), officially started construction in the central part of the country.
The project leader Feng Yinfeng stated that the first 10 kilometer test section is planned to be completed by the end of 2025, and the entire line is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in April 2027.
The Zanma Highway is an important component of the Malawi M7 Highway, with a total length of 60 kilometers, serving as a crucial passage connecting the capital city of Lilongwe with northern Malawi. According to the plan, the project will upgrade the original dirt road to a two-way two lane asphalt pavement, which is expected to shorten the travel time from Lilongwe to major cities in the north by 30%. After the completion of the project, it will bring convenient travel to 15 villages along the route and over 70000 residents, promoting the development of local agricultural product circulation, tourism development and other industries.
