Kenya’s Mombasa Nairobi Railway achieves safe operation for 3000 days

On August 19th, at the locomotive operation and maintenance yard of Africa Star Railway Operation Co., Ltd. in Nairobi, Kenya, railway workers from China and Kenya stood in front of locomotives and formed the “3000” logo to commemorate the safe operation of the Mombasa Nairobi Railway for 3000 days (drone photo).

The reporter learned from Africa Star Railway Operation Co., Ltd. that as of August 16th, the Mombasa Nairobi Railway in Kenya, constructed and operated by Chinese enterprises, has achieved safe operation for 3000 days. Since its opening on May 31, 2017, the Mombasa Nairobi Railway has transported a total of 15.928 million passengers and 41.963 million tons of goods.

The Mombasa Nairobi Railway starts from the port city of Mombasa in Kenya in the east and ends in the capital Nairobi in the west, with a total length of 472 kilometers. Mombasa Nairobi Railway is the first railway built in Kenya since independence, and also a landmark project of China Kenya cooperation in the “the Belt and Road”. The locomotive maintenance workshop of Africa Star Railway Operation Co., Ltd. is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and upkeep of locomotives on the Mombasa Nairobi Railway.
