Chengdu, November 23 (Xinhua) — Summary | Jointly Seeking the Road to Global Ecological Civilization Construction – Domestic and Foreign Experts Discuss China’s Contribution to Global Sustainable Development through Practice
Elastas Mwencha, member of the Advisory Committee of the “the Belt and Road” International Cooperation Summit Forum and former vice chairman of the African Union Commission, who participated in the Global Panda Partnership Conference, said that China’s path of ecological civilization construction provides a good reference for the global green transformation. For example, China’s progress in the field of clean energy not only helps reduce carbon emissions and pollution, but also has important significance for global energy conservation and emission reduction.
Experts from multiple countries have stated that China is a rapidly developing country with a deep understanding of protecting biodiversity, striving for carbon neutrality, and developing green energy, and has taken swift and effective actions. China’s practices in these areas can serve as an example for other countries.
Andreas Knirim, the director of Berlin Zoo in Germany, said that China’s achievements in environmental protection over the past decade are amazing, and the significant improvements in this area also give people confidence in the future. The tangible results prove that China is on the right path and have positive significance for global sustainable development.
On the road of ecological civilization construction, China not only improves its own environmental governance, but also firmly upholds multilateralism and the international system centered on the United Nations, and promotes the construction of a fair, reasonable, cooperative and win-win global environmental governance system through practical actions. Over the years, China has actively promoted international conventions such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, demonstrating increasingly important leadership in advancing global sustainable development.
Knirim said that China plays an important role in promoting the global climate negotiation process, proposing numerous forward-looking ideas, projects, and technological solutions that help countries explore suitable environmental solutions.
The future of sustainable development is an inclusive future. China adheres to the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, always pays attention to the needs of developing countries, and provides universal and accessible solutions for the global South to move towards eco-friendly modernization. Collaborating with Thailand to promote the “Bangkok Clean Air” project, carrying out the “Utilizing Solar Photovoltaic Systems to Transform the Ulaanbaatar Mongolian Concession” project with Mongolia, and sharing China’s experience in Poyang Lake governance with experts from countries related to the Victoria Lake region in Africa… China’s wisdom, solutions, and strength are playing an increasingly important role in the multilateral platform of global environmental and climate governance.
When talking about biodiversity, Thai ecological protection expert Pech Manopavit said that as the chair of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, China has successfully promoted milestone achievements such as the Kunming Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. China’s leadership has shaped the direction of progress and inspired other countries, including Thailand, to participate.
Indonesian wildlife conservation expert Jansen Manasan stated that China continues to innovate and promote large-scale application of environmental protection technology, while actively promoting international sharing of related achievements. He said that in the process of global green transformation, many developing countries still face many challenges, and he looks forward to China continuing to play a constructive role.
Hu Jun said that China has always adhered to the concept of a community of shared future for mankind, signed 55 memorandums of understanding for cooperation with 43 developing countries through South South cooperation to address climate change, adhered to the green “the Belt and Road”, promoted the inclusive sharing of green technologies, and helped the global South improve climate resilience and people’s well-being.
Mwencha said that as an African, he sees many similarities between China’s ecological development process and the relevant content of the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Cooperation between China and African countries in renewable energy, wildlife conservation, and sustainable agriculture is increasingly deepening.
