On January 15th local time, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed stated at a press conference that Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) have reached an agreement on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of detainees, which will come into effect on January 19th. The ceasefire agreement will be implemented in stages, including ceasefire, exchange of detained personnel, gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip, return of displaced residents to their homes in northern Gaza, and increased humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. Since the outbreak of the current Israeli Palestinian conflict, with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, Israel and Hamas have held multiple rounds of negotiations. Except for a brief ceasefire between Israel and Palestine in November 2023 and the release of some detainees, subsequent rounds of negotiations have failed to lead to a permanent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The latest round of ceasefire negotiations in the Gaza Strip resumed on the 3rd of this month in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the 14th that the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza have entered the final stage, and all parties are currently discussing the final details.

Barclays strategist Joseph Abate wrote in the report that the decision of the Federal Reserve to stop reducing its balance sheet may depend more on the ratio of reserves to bank assets rather than a specific date. Barclays assumes that the Federal Reserve hopes to lower the reserve to asset ratio to around 12%, which may be reached by August 2025 without a debt ceiling.

  • On January 16th, Russian online media Baza released the complete call records between the pilot and air traffic controller of the crashed Azerbaijan Airlines plane. According to records, all decisions regarding not landing in Grozny, not flying to Mahachikala, and ultimately flying to Aktau were independently made by the crew of Azerbaijan Airlines. The call records show that the air traffic controller had suggested the crew to land in Grozny first, and then suggested landing in Mahachkala, and provided the crew with data from other Russian airports, but the crew decided not to fly to these locations for landing. In addition, it can be clearly heard from the call records that the claims of collision with birds and explosion of gas cylinders in the cabin were inferred by the crew during the call. The records also show that the plane was indeed affected by external factors, but the pilot did not announce to the passengers in the cabin that the plane had encountered an emergency situation.

In addition, this thin film can be deposited and produced at lower temperatures, making it compatible with modern computer chips. This new material has great potential in the field of nanoelectronics in the future, and is expected to bring stronger and more energy-efficient electronic products, helping to solve the power and energy consumption problems in current electronic products.
