South Korean Foreign Affairs and Science and Technology Departments Establish a Consultation Mechanism to Discuss AI Digital Policies

Li Zonghao stated that in order to cope with the global competition around AI digital dominance and standards, it is crucial for the two departments to work closely together and gather professional strength.

According to foreign media reports, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science, Technology, Information and Communications jointly established a consultation mechanism on the 10th – the Foreign Policy Agreement Conference, which will share domestic and international trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital fields and discuss relevant policies.

The Foreign Policy Agreement will be co chaired by the Second Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The opening ceremony of the agreement meeting was held on the morning of the same day at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, with Foreign Minister Zhao Hualie and Minister of Science and Technology Li Zonghao attending the event.

Zhao Hualie stated that the agreement will strive to play a leading role in formulating international technical standards, and work closely with enterprises to actively protect Korean companies from improper treatment in overseas projects and foreign investments. If the integration of economic security and technology is the trend of the times, the two departments should also unite and formulate strategic response measures for national interests.

Li Zonghao stated that the influence of AI core technology on national competitiveness and security is increasing day by day. In order to cope with the global competition around AI digital dominance and norms, it is crucial for the two departments to work closely together and gather professional strength.
