Wandering Space 53, Soviet “Cosmos-482” probe crashes back into the Indian Ocean

On May 10th, according to the Russian news agency TASS, the “Cosmos-482” automatic probe launched by the Soviet Union in March 1972 has recently crashed into the Indian Ocean west of Jakarta. The probe was originally planned to fly to Venus, but due to a booster malfunction, it was unable to leave Earth’s orbit. As time goes by, the height of the detector decreases and eventually falls back into the atmosphere. The device has a diameter of about one meter and weighs less than 500 kilograms.
