Kuala Lumpur, February 11th (Xinhua) — The first batch of high-speed trains for the Malaysia East Coast Railway (MCA) project, constructed by China Communications Construction Corporation, officially debuted at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Alam Station in Pahang, Malaysia on the 11th.

On the same day, guests attending the inauguration ceremony of the project’s high-speed train and electric locomotive, as well as the handover ceremony of the appointment letter from the mobile network infrastructure service provider, took a test ride on the high-speed train and experienced various modern facilities on board.

During the ceremony, Malaysian Transport Minister Luk Siu Fook delivered a speech expressing his expectation that the new train will provide local residents with a smooth, comfortable, and convenient riding experience, making the Malaysia East Rail an important engine for driving regional economic development along the route. Malaysian Minister of Communications, Fahmy Fazil, stated that with the advancement of the Malaysia East Rail project, digital construction represented by communication facilities is also advancing simultaneously, jointly building an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem.

Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing stated in his speech that the overall progress of the Malaysia East Rail project has reached 91.7%, and the use of high-speed trains and electric locomotives marks an important step for the project to move from high-quality construction to high-level operation. China is willing to work together with Malaysia to build the Ma Dong Railway into a demonstration project that continues the traditional friendship between China and Malaysia and shares the fruits of development.

With a total length of 665 kilometers, the Malaysia East Railway Project is the flagship project of China Malaysia cooperation in the “the Belt and Road” initiative. After completion, it will greatly promote the connectivity of the regions along the line and drive the economic development of the eastern coast of Malaysia.
