Rafik Abasov, Director of the Department of Sinology at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that more and more young people in Azerbaijan are realizing the importance of learning Chinese and have developed a strong interest in it, leading to the flourishing development of Chinese education in the region.

Abasov said that the Azerbaijani people have a deep love for China and a strong interest in understanding China. He once organized seminars on Chinese history, which were attended not only by many college students, but also by other people interested in China and Chinese history.

He said that the relationship between Azerbaijan and China is developing rapidly, and for Azerbaijan, China is a friendly and reliable country. Many companies in Azerbaijan are using Chinese equipment and technology, and mastering these devices and technologies requires talents who are proficient in Chinese. Young people are the most dynamic group in Afghan society, and they generally believe that China is the closest and most reliable partner for the development of economic relations in Afghanistan. They also attach great importance to learning Chinese. In their view, if they can learn Chinese well and master other professional skills, their future will be bright.

Abasov highly praised Chinese students studying in Azerbaijan. He said that Chinese people are diligent and eager to learn, and Chinese students studying at various universities in Azerbaijan are recognized for their good character, strong thirst for knowledge, and friendly personality.

Abasov is also the Azerbaijani Dean of the Confucius Institute at the Azerbaijan Language University. He said that in recent years, Chinese education has flourished in Azerbaijan, and more and more young Azerbaijanis are choosing to study in China. He introduced that two universities in Azerbaijan have established Confucius Institutes. The Confucius Institute of Azerbaijan Language University has established Chinese language teaching points in multiple universities and high schools, and also set up Chinese learning groups for some interested children.

He said that Azerbaijan and China were closely connected through the Silk Road in history, and the initiative of jointly building the “the Belt and Road” made the ancient Silk Road glow with new vitality and promoted people to people connectivity. The more people from different countries understand each other, the better they can comprehend each other’s cultures.

Abasov has worked in the Office of the President of Azerbaijan for a long time and has been closely following China’s development. He has a deep understanding of the exchanges and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and China. He said that it is through cooperation with China that Azerbaijan has accumulated rich experience and created its own economic zone. China is technologically advanced and holds a leading position in areas such as solar panel production and wind energy. He believes that the prospects for cooperation between Afghanistan and China are very broad.
