On May 14th, OpenAI is considering building a new data center in the United Arab Emirates, which could significantly expand its business layout in the Middle East. The agreement has not yet been finalized and could still be changed, possibly announced as early as this week during US President Trump’s visit to the Middle East. Trump plans to visit the United Arab Emirates on Thursday. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is currently visiting the region as part of a collective visit by technology leaders. According to insiders, it is currently unclear how much data center capacity OpenAI plans to build in the United Arab Emirates. The success or failure of this project largely depends on whether OpenAI can successfully import NVIDIA’s cutting-edge chips for developing and training AI models. Since 2023, the United States has been restricting the sale of such chips to the United Arab Emirates, but according to media reports, Trump administration officials are about to reach an agreement to relax the access rights of this Gulf country.

On May 14th, the Houthi armed forces in Yemen issued a statement stating that their missile unit used a hypersonic ballistic missile to attack Israel’s Ben Gurion airport. The Houthi militants stated that the missile accurately hit the target and caused the airport to pause for about an hour. The Houthis once again emphasized that the air blockade against Israel is still effective and demanded that all airlines stop flights to Israeli airports.

On May 14th, Natalia Kiselova, Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly, rejected President Radev’s proposal to hold a referendum on the country’s accession to the eurozone. On the 13th, the Bulgarian National Assembly announced that the proposal was rejected by the Speaker due to its inconsistency with relevant provisions of the Bulgarian Constitution and other legal provisions. In April of this year, Bulgarian Finance Minister Petkova stated that the country had met all the criteria for joining the eurozone. On the 9th of this month, President Radev announced that he has proposed to the National Assembly to hold a referendum on whether the country will join the eurozone in 2026. Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007. For over a decade, joining the eurozone has been a priority goal for the government.

On May 14th, AMD reached a $10 billion strategic partnership with Saudi AI company Humain to advance global artificial intelligence. According to the agreement, both parties will invest up to $10 billion to deploy 500 megawatts of artificial intelligence computing power over the next five years.
