Non zero tariff measures bring new opportunities for agricultural cooperation between China and Zimbabwe

Harare, April 9 (Xinhua) — As the date of China’s full implementation of zero tariff measures on 53 African countries with diplomatic relations approaches, more and more Chinese companies are coming to Zimbabwe to explore business opportunities. The Zimbabwe government held a meeting with Chinese agricultural product buyers on the 8th in Manicalan Province, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean agricultural officials, farmer representatives, and Chinese buyers reached multiple cooperation intentions.

Alan Majulu, CEO of the Zimbabwe Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said at the event that in recent years, Zimbabwean agricultural products such as avocados, blueberries, and macaques have been popular in the Chinese market due to their excellent quality. Zimbabwe is improving various measures to further expand the export of agricultural products to China through zero tariff measures.

Chinese procurement leader Wang Nan told reporters that Chinese companies are optimistic about the export potential of agricultural products from African countries such as Zimbabwe. Our accompanying companies and Zimbabwean chili producers plan to sign a memorandum of cooperation, with an expected purchase volume of 5000 tons this time

Huang Minghai, Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, stated that China’s zero tariff policy will further expand the export of Zimbabwean agricultural products to China and promote the transformation of Zimbabwe from exporting primary agricultural products to high value-added agricultural products. This policy will promote Zimbabwe to further enrich its export structure, continuously enhance economic stability and risk resistance.

China will fully implement zero tariff measures for 53 African countries that have established diplomatic relations with China starting from May 1st. At the same time, China will continue to promote the signing of economic partnership agreements for common development, and further expand the access of African products to China through upgrading the “green channel” and other measures.
